EAA is dedicated to providing its members with up-to-date information and ideas on fighting tall tower construction near their airports and regularly flown VFR flight routes. This page contains a number of links for people facing construction of tall towers or other tall structures that would negatively impact safety. When a company plans to build a tall tower or other tall structure, it faces several hurdles. The first is the local county/city zoning board. Next comes FCC and FAA review. Finally, a proposal must pass the public review process. If all these hurdles are cleared, the tower is built and pilots face a new potential hazard in the sky.

EAA Government and Industry Relations reviews an average of 300 FAA tall tower/tall structure construction project public notices per month. Several of EAA's Tower Case Reviews are available on this site that can provide blueprints for successfully opposing projects that encroach on airports and VFR flight routes. FAA links are also included on this site that include: Rules regarding objects affecting navigable airspace; Traffic patterns and practices for airports without control towers; and a model zoning ordinance to limit height of objects around airports.
If you have any questions regarding the tall towers issue, please contact EAA Government and Industry Relations at 920-426-6522, or e-mail govt@eaa.org.
