Ron Alexander
    "Hands-On" Building Experience Workshops

Ron Alexander has been involved in the sport aviation for over 20 years. He began restoring antique airplanes in the mid 1970’s as a hobby and soon found that materials and supplies were difficult to obtain. Attempting to solve this problem, Ron founded Alexander Aeroplane Company in 1979.

The organization grew rapidly to become one of the leading aircraft supply companies in a fast growing industry. Ron was very much aware that the sales people of his company spent endless hours attempting to answer technical questions concerning the use of the products they were selling.

To address this issue, a workshop program was established to provide "hands-on" building experience for the aircraft builder and restorer. The first workshop was held in 1993. Initially, fabric covering and composite construction classes were offered. Sheet metal construction, welding, and an introductory class soon followed. The workshop program became an immediate success due to the demand for quality instruction in aircraft building.

Ron felt that the need for quality workshop programs was essential for the development of the sport aviation industry. The experience of presenting workshops around the country verified this need. In 1996, Alexander Aeroplane Company was sold to Aircraft Spruce and Specialty. This allowed Ron to concentrate on the educational aspects of sport aviation. A new company called SportAir was formed to continue the workshop program. Ron has spent the last several years devoting most of his time to the development of an educational program that presents the technical information needed for custom aircraft building to the industry. He has written numerous articles on various technical subjects and continues to do so on a monthly basis.

Ron continues to restore antique airplanes as a hobby. He also has over 20,000 hours flying time with experience in military aircraft, light aircraft, and with the airlines. He currently flies a J-3 Cub, Stearman, and DC-3 for pleasure along with a Boeing 767 for Delta Air Lines.
